Spies in red hats and white dresses by Wall Street and New York Stock Exchange

I was on my way through downtown NYC this morning and ran into a group of about 40 or so ladies dressed up as spies in red hats and white dresses.  Really interesting marketing as they were handing out cards with an envelope stating: Your Secret Mission: Spy the World.  What the card simply displayed was a new USA series called Covert Affairs; their tag line is ‘Single Woman. Double Life.’  Of course the back of the card has a secret code with a sweepstakes to win an all-expense paid journey to six big cities around the world.  Will I share my PII to these folks…no thanks!

Avatar in IMAX 3D

So I finally got to watch Avatar in IMAX 3D!  Let me tell you what an experience it was – an awesome movie with a great story line.  The cherry on top was the 3D glasses you get to wear (but not to keep); the 3D effects were pretty mindblowing.  Remember when Jurrasic Park came out and how it was one of the first movies to have live looking dinosaurs; a breakthough at that time.  Avatar is similar in that sense of a breakthough in movie-making; this time in 3D.  Yes, we’ve seen 3D movies here and there, even live 3D shows at Walt Disney World (Terminator back in 1997 from what I remember), but this is movie will be the forerunner in 3D movies.  I’m quite sure Avatar will beat out Titanic as the top grossing movies of all time.  If James Cameron (director) sees that the movie is a big hit, which is quite apparent, he’ll definitely come out with sequels – I can’t wait!

php session_start() issues for php captcha

I was going nuts (banging my head on my desk) because I just couldn’t figure out why session variables weren’t being stored after submitting a form with php captcha (http://www.phpcaptcha.org).  I looked through the settings, http headers, check my validation code, almost everything just for a simple form to submit after a user enters the CORRECT captcha code.  One item I did not check was the folder to where the php sessions were configured to be saved to.  The default is something similar to /var/lib/php/session but because the directory didn’t exist, the sessions weren’t being saved.  I give much thanks to my hosting provider for figuring this out.  Be sure that the folder is writable and readable for the correct user and/or group.
